Lilja lives in a lighthouse at the top of the world. She is the keeper of the Northern Lights. Her dad is often away. He measures and weighs the water, counts the fish, animals, and plants, and searches for wonders at sea. After each voyage, Lilja receives a shell. Her collection grows ever larger. One day, her dad tells her about a whale who always swims alone. Other whales can't hear his song, so they don't consider him one of their own.
When Lilja stays home alone again, it's quiet in the lighthouse. Until suddenly, a song sounds from one of the shells. Is it the whale? And is he singing for Lilja?
